K-State Sawin Arts Extension launches with inaugural event in Great Bend

Submitted by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance

Crest

On Monday, Sept. 30, K-State music students and faculty participated in the inaugural Sawin Arts Extension program held in Great Bend.

These events took place at Great Bend High School, where choir students from Great Bend, Hoisington and Ellinwood gathered, and at the Crest Theatre, where orchestra students from Great Bend, Dodge City, Garden City and other regional schools participated in a day of free training, clinics, lessons and performances.

Through the generosity of Jerry A. Hall from Indianapolis, Indiana, the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Kansas State University can now offer free performing arts clinics, educational outreach, instrument repair and support in rural Kansas communities. This ongoing initiative is designed to enrich arts education in areas that have limited access to such resources, enhancing opportunities for students and communities across the state.
