Combined printing operations increase efficiency, service to campus clients

Combining two campus units is increasing efficiency and improving service to K-State clients seeking help with digital and offset printing projects.
University printing is the new, combined unit, with personnel from both the K-State Research and Extension's duplicating unit and Communications and Marketing's printing services. The new unit provides help with printing and duplicating projects for clients throughout campus. Interim director is Greg LeValley.
University printing expands on-demand printing services. Currently, digital and offset printing are completed at the printing plant near the Manhattan airport and in facilities in the K-State Student Union and in Umberger Hall.
The organizations will be merged operationally by the end of this fiscal year. A long-term goal is to move all operations to campus, improving service and efficiency, said Jeff Morris, vice president for communications and marketing.
President Kirk Schulz said the creation of University Printing is an example of how K-State is increasing efficiencies as it looks for ways to deal with a shrinking budget while pursuing the goal of being a top 50 public research university.
"Helping people across campus and in our Extension offices with their printing needs is an important service of the university," Schulz said. "The creation of university printing allows us to do an even better job more efficiently."
Kris Boone, head of the department of communications, said, "We look forward to better serving all of our customers throughout Kansas State University."
