Beach workshop brings 3-D art to life
Experience 3-D art; no funky glasses required.
Kathrine Schlageck, senior educator at the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum at Kansas State University, will lead a free workshop for adults on children and 3-D art at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7. The workshop is part of the museum's Looking at Art with Children series, which is funded by an education leadership grant from the Kansas Arts Commission.
The workshop is designed to help educators and caregivers foster 3-D thinking and creativity, and includes information on how to help children understand 3-D art and positive and negative space through discussion, movement activities and projects.
Activities and information for this workshop come from work that museum staff has done with children on 3-D art over the past few years and incorporates the Museum Movement Technique.
"Museum Movement Technique helps children of all ages better understand sculpture and other 3-D art by involving them kinesthetically," Schlageck said.
This workshop is ideally suited for early childhood providers, home-school educators, teachers and parents. Participants will receive a folder of art project instructions. A separate children's workshop/child care service is available by reservation.
To make reservations, call the museum at 785-532-7718 or e-mail klwalk@k-state.edu.
