Kansas State Rowing Association to celebrate 50 years of rowing
Rowing alumni, family and friends of the Kansas State Rowing Association are invited to join current rowers and coaches in celebrating 50 years of rowing at the association’s 50th Anniversary Banquet on Friday, Oct. 25.
The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. with a cash bar and mixer at the Manhattan Country Club, followed by a buffet dinner at 7 p.m. A short program will include a silent auction and the unveiling of a plaque honoring the late Don Rose, longtime coach and supporter of the sport.
The association began at Kansas State University in 1963 with a team of male rowers and Coach Rose's vision to expand rowing in the Midwest. A juniors rowing program for local high school students was started in 1986, and in 2008 a masters rowing program was initiated. Rowers from all three teams practice at Tuttle Creek Lake and compete at regattas regionally and nationwide. Participation is open to all with an interest in rowing.
The K-State women’s rowing team was initiated in 1974 and became an NCAA team in 1996.
Banquet tickets are $35 per person and should be reserved by Oct. 21 by emailing kansasstaterowingassociation@yahoo.com. For more information, call 785-410-1020.
