NACADA peer advising webinar Nov. 14
The next National Academic Advising Association, or NACADA, webinar for the fall semester is “The Peer Advising Advantage: Creating Meaningful Connections" at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in Room 227 at the K-State Student Union.
Peer advisors can provide the necessary connection students need in order to become engaged. In this Web event, sponsored by the association's Peer Advising and Mentoring Commission, our panelists will consider the benefits and challenges of peer advising programs. Topics of discussion will include development of programs and necessary resources to be successful, initial and continuous training ideas, program assessment and evaluation of peer advisors, and creative incentives/payment of peer advisors.
The moderator is Kathy Stockwell, retired, Fox Valley Technical College. Panelists include:
- Dana Zahorik, chair of peer advising services, counselor/advisor, Fox Valley Technical College.
- Connie Rice, assistant director of academic services undergraduate business programs, Leavey School of Business, Santa Clara University.
- Megumi Makino-Kanehiro, director/academic advisor, Manoa Advising Center for Exploratory Students, University of Hawaii at Manoa.
- Kellie Stegath, peer advisor and mentor, student at Fox Valley Technical College.
