Drama therapy professor keynotes in Seattle
Sally Bailey, professor in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, was the keynote speaker for the third annual Theatre in Our Schools Conference hosted at Seattle Pacific University on March 29.
The theme of the conference was "Common Core and Inclusive Education: Whose Theatre? Whose Schools?" with a focus on the ways theatre education, founded on the Common Core State Standards, can include and engage all kinds of students. Bailey's speech focused on theatre techniques that incorporate Universal Design for Learning concepts, which are accessible to students of all abilities and can be used in theatre classes or other curricular classes in which theatre is being used as a teaching tool.
On March 30, Bailey presented a workshop for the Bothel United Methodist Church, which has created a volunteer program to include people with disabilities in all their church's activities. She was invited by the initiators of the volunteer program, K-State alum Jemmie Godwin and Seattle Pacific University theatre professor Andrew Ryder.
