Mortar Board president receives Alpha Tau Omega Mortar Board Leadership Scholarship
Julianne Perrini, a senior graduating in May 2014 with a bachelor's degree in athletic training and a minor in kinesiology , was presented the fifth annual Michael E. Brown Alpha Tau Omega Mortar Board Leadership Scholarship.
The scholarship award is given to a K-State student who is a member of Mortar Board Senior Honorary and has substantially contributed to the quality of student life and outstanding leadership at Kansas State University. The recipient of the scholarship receives a $1,000 award.
"I can't thank Bill Muir, Dr. Mary Tolar, and Dr. Pat Bosco enough for awarding me the Michael E. Brown Alpha Tau Omega Mortar Board Leadership Scholarship," said Perrini, who is from Fairway. "Over the past year it has been an honor to be the president of Mortar Board. I have truly enjoyed making meaningful projects that impact the people of Manhattan. I could have never imagined how much those projects would impact me. The other officers, members and advisers have really pushed me to reach my full potential and have been such influential people in my life this past year. I would not be receiving this award if it were not for all their hard work."
The scholarship, donated by William L. Muir through the Kansas State Alpha Tau Omega Students' Aid Endowment Fund, was established in 2009 to perpetuate the life of Michael E. Brown on the campus of Kansas State University. The scholarship also provides education opportunities and assistance for upper-level students who posses exemplary attributes in leadership, scholarship, fellowship and character. The scholarship is awarded annually to a member of Mortar Board Senior Honorary.
Perrini has been involved in many campus activities, including Blue Key and Chimes service honoraries, Relay for Life K-State, Kansas Athletic Trainers Association, Alpha Delta Pi sorority and as president of Mortar Board from 2013-2014. In June, Perrini will begin graduate studies at Rockhurst University toward a doctorate degree in physical therapy. She plans to complete medical missionary work globally postgraduation. After completing missionary work, she hopes to settle in the United States in a sports medicine clinic.
An advisor of Perrini during her time as president of Mortar Board Senior Honorary wrote: "Julie is an outstanding leader who shares her remarkable talents with others; whether that is student, faculty, staff, or people in Manhattan and other great communities. She challenges others to think outside their own perspectives. She stands truthfully for her beliefs, yet is able to listen with an earnest ear to the voices of others."
