Osher Lifelong Learning summer classes
Submitted by Charlene Brownson
Enrollment for the summer Osher Lifelong Learning classes is open.
This program offers enrichment short courses and special events specially developed for folks 50 and better. No homework. No test. No pressure. It's learning for the joy of it.
In August 2010, Kansas State University Provost April Mason and University of Kansas Provost Jeff Vitter signed a historic agreement to have the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at KU collaborate with K-State's Division of Continuing Education, now known as K-State Global Campus, to offer noncredit enrichment short courses and special events specifically developed for people 50 years of age and older, although they are open to the entire community.
A few of the classes offered this summer are:
- Feeding the Threshers: a class about the Kansas wheat harvest, especially the women's role from 3-5 p.m. Mondays, June 2, 9 and 16.
- History of Rock and Roll from 3-5 p.m. Mondays, July 14, 21 and 28.
- Peace and Conflict in Northern Ireland from 2-4 p.m. Wednesdays, July 2, 9, 16.
- The Ukraine Crisis from 7-9 p.m. Wednesdays, July 23, 30 and Aug. 6
- Special event: Bus trip to the King Tut exhibit at Union Station in Kansas City on Friday, July 18.
