Durband, Britt write student financial literacy white paper
A new report summarizing proactive steps universities are taking to provide financial literacy services to their students offers resources for college officials hoping to start or enhance programs across the nation.
Two of the five contributors to the report, released by the Coalition of Higher Education Assistance Organizations, or COHEAO, are Sonya Britt, associate professor and director of the personal financial planning program in the College of Human Ecology, and Dottie Durband, director the School of Family Studies and Human Services and former professor of personal financial planning at Texas Tech University.
According to the white paper, student loan debt has doubled since 2007. College financial counseling centers are more needed than ever to help students cope with this level of debt. Various types of counseling/education centers are discussed in the paper.
