Young to retire in December after more than 20 years of service
Kristine Young, assistant provost for international programs, will retire in December after more than 20 years of service to Kansas State University. She is relocating to Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Young initially served as administrative director of the international programs office, which was at the time, a newly created position. Young's role was to provide support and assistance to the associate provost by providing leadership and supervision of international student and scholar services, study abroad, English language program, international admissions and recruiting, and international program support, along with internal operations, budget and human resources responsibilities.
Young served as interim associate provost for international programs from March 2008 through July 2009. In July 2009, Young was promoted to assistant provost, and has continued to serve in this role since then. Young traveled extensively for the university, and co-led two multiuniversity delegations to Ethiopia.
Young served on Faculty Senate, the General University Administrative Caucus, the President's Commission on the Status of Women, the Associate Deans Council, and numerous university committees. Young was elected president of the Mid America Universities International, a consortium of universities in the Midwest, for two consecutive terms.
During her many years at K-State, Young also worked in numerous units, including the undergraduate admission office and the registrar's office. Her international work began in the 70's when she handled all undergraduate international applications for admissions, and specialized in international credentials evaluations. While in the registrar's office, Kristine served as the project coordinator for the DARS project in its early stages.
Young's teaching experience included liberal arts courses focused on critical thinking skills, women and leadership, women and management, organizational behavior, intercultural communications and principles of human resource development.
Prior to returning to K-State in 2007, Young served as campus executive officer for the Jeffersonville, Indiana campus of Ottawa University, the director for international enrollment management, and as the associate registrar for Ottawa University International.
Young earned a bachelor's degree in history from Kansas State University, an master's degree in human resources from Ottawa University, and an Doctor of Education in leadership education from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky.
"Kristine's contributions to the internationalization of our campuses have been pervasive," said Marcelo Sabatés, associate provost in the international programs office. "Kristine has an extraordinary work ethic, a very sophisticated knowledge of the field and of how the university functions. She has been so committed to our institution that she will be missed as much as her legacy remembered at Kansas State University."
