Community dialogue about sexual violence rescheduled, developed into monthly event
Submitted by Communications and Marketing
The community dialogue about sexual violence, sponsored by the Office of Student Life and the Center for Advocacy Response and Education, or CARE, is rescheduled from Sept. 16 to noon Oct. 6 — the first event of the new Shatter the Silence Lunch Hour.
The Office of Student Life and the Center for Advocacy Response and Education apologize for any inconvenience this causes.
Shatter the Silence Lunch Hour is a forum for community dialogue on the first Monday of every month. The lunch hour will be in the CARE office, 206 Holton Hall, and provide a safe and affirming place for any community member who would like to be part of the conversations happening about sexual violence on college campuses. Shatter the Silence Lunch Hours for the 2014-2015 academic year will be Oct. 6, Nov. 3, Dec. 1, Feb. 2, March 2 and April 6.
Shatter the Silence Lunch Hour is named in recognition of the cultural norms that encourage individuals to stay silent about the issues of sexual violence. Kansas State University, has and always will, place the safety of its students as a top priority. Silence will never be an acceptable response to sexual violence in the K-State community and these lunch hours are a reflection of that standard. Attendees will be able to speak with the CARE coordinators at each meeting, provide feedback on the meeting's topic and voice concerns.
Anyone who can not make the lunch hour times, or would like to speak in a confidential setting, is encouraged to contact the CARE coordinators at 785-532-6444.
