Doctoral candidate to present at National Symposium on LGBTQ Research in Higher Education
Submitted by Joelyn Katherine Foy
Jo Foy, doctoral candidate in curriculum and instruction, College of Education, will present a small portion of her dissertation research at the National Symposium on LGBTQ Research in Higher Education, Oct. 18, at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan.
Her presentation, "Understanding levels of sexual prejudice using mixed methods: The benefits of mixed method educational research" will draw on her recent completed research addressing sexual prejudice among preservice and in-service teachers in the Midwest.
In particular, she will speak to the advantages of having utilized a mixed methods approach to her dissertation research. Had she only distributed a survey and relied only on quantitative data, she would not have heard the stories of the lived experiences of preservice and in-service teachers working directly with sexual minority youth in their school buildings.
This national symposium is sponsored by the National Study of LGBTQ Student Success.
