K-State's improv comedy team wins regional competition

Members from Kansas State University's On The Spot improv team won the Heartland Regional College Improv Tournament Nov. 8 in Kansas City.
Casha Mills, sophomore in English, Kansas City; Bridgette Beasley, freshman in open option, Overland Park; Jordan Crook, senior in architectural engineering, Wichita; and Betsy Haddox, graduate student in landscape architecture, Denver, Colorado, were members of the award-winning team, Super Supportive. They will represent K-State at the National College Improv Tournament, March 14, 2015, in Chicago.
Eleven teams from Midwestern universities competed in the tournament.
Placing second in the tournament was K-State's Meg Has Low Self-Esteem team, which included Matthew Roeder, senior in graphic design, Frankfort; Meg Anderson, senior in family studies, and Danny Neely, senior in food science and industry, both from Lenexa; Kati Krieg, senior in English, Hutchinson; and Beth Bowman, senior in mechanical engineering, Overland Park.
A third team, We’re Adopted, received a wild card to the finial round of the tournament. The team included Sally Spurgeon, freshman in humanities, Lawrence; Ryan Woods, sophomore in fine arts, Lenexa; Dan Spicer, freshman in pre-psychology, Overland Park; and Sophie Trombetta, senior in biology, Plano, Texas.
On The Spot was started in 2009. The group has performed with several theater comedy troupes, including The Second City, The Reckoning, Baby Wants Candy and Octavarius. The K-State group has attended festivals and workshops in the Midwest, as well hosted improv workshops on campus and at area high schools.
On The Spot performs at 8 p.m. every Thursday in K-State Student Union's Union Station.
