K-State entomology graduate students were recognized at the national meeting of the Entomological Society of America, Nov. 16-19, in Portland, Oregon.
The K-State Entomology Debate Team, consisting of students Edwin Afful, mentored by Tom Phillips; Aaron Cato, mentored by Phillips; Dinesh Erram, mentored by Ludek Zurek; and Bettina Jancke, mentored by Jeremy Marshall, won its head-to-head debate against Florida A&M University, which focused on most promising tools for combating malaria in the future.
Two doctoral students, Michael "Jamie" Aikins and Barbara Amoah, both mentored by Phillips, received Entomological Society of America President's Prize second-place awards for their research posters in their respective groups.
Also part of the meeting was the annual meeting of the Nearctic Region Section of the International Organization for Biological Control, at which K-State student Ryan Schmid, mentored by Brian McCornack, was awarded the 2014 Outstanding MS Award, a national award presented to an outstanding master's degree student working in biological control.
