Linder to deliver keynote address at Australian celebration of Anzac Day, April 24, in Brisbane, Australia
Robert D. Linder, history, has been invited to deliver the keynote address, "Standing Civil Religion on Its Head: The View from the Antipodes," at an annual celebration of Anzac Day in Australia on April 24.
Anzac Day in Australia is the equivalent of Independence Day in the United States. The celebration will occur on the day before this year's Anzac Day at Emmanuel College at the University of Queensland in Brisbane.
Linder will speak about Australian civil religion — the public religion characteristic of the nation down under. He will argue that Australian civil religion is different from American civil religion because of Australia's history and geography. Nevertheless, it is important for a complete understanding of the Australian people today.
