Volunteers wanted for electronic waste collection event
Volunteers are needed for the fourth Electronic Waste Collection Day, March 28, in the parking lot west of Memorial Stadium. Volunteers are needed in two-hour blocks from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch, beverages and T-shirts will be provided.
Last year we collected more than 20,000 pounds of electronic waste in just four hours. We need your help this year for another successful event.
Volunteers at the recycling event will receive a short training session prior to the start of the event covering safety topics such as proper lifting and traffic hazards, duties for each work station and the flow of activity for the day. You may choose from the following work station:
Greeters are positioned at the entrance and exit of the event. They welcome participants as they arrive, stop the vehicles to provide direction on how to proceed, answer general questions, administer a brief survey and thank participants as they leave.
Traffic Control volunteers are stationed throughout the entire length of the traffic lanes. They direct participants traffic through the queue, into the unloading area and through the exit.
Handlers are stationed in the unloading zone. They provide brief instruction to the participant — place vehicle in park, remain in vehicle, be aware of site personnel and other moving vehicles — unload electronic waste, move waste to sorting area and package waste. Handlers must be able to lift 20 pounds.
