Free symposium to focus on military-connected learners
The College of Education will host the second symposium for K-16 military-connected learners at Fort Riley next week.
The K-State Military Initiatives Education Symposium: Military-Connected Students and Special Needs will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 11 at the Fort Riley Conference Center on post. The event is free and requires no registration. Attendees without a Department of Defense identification card, Fort Riley access badge or visitor pass must enter through the Henry Gate, located at exit 301 off I-70.
Sandy Risberg, instructor of curriculum and instruction and one of the event organizers, said sessions are tailored for K-12 educators and for those in higher education. Topics for K-12 include "Best Practices: Students with Autism," "iPad, Apps and Children with Special Needs" and "Advocating During Times of Transition for Your Adolescent School-aged Children."
For those in higher education, topics include "Student Access: What is considered a disability? What resources are available and how do you get them?" "Out of the Field and Into the Classroom: How to Make this Transition and Become Self-Reliant, Successful Students" and "Demystifying College Academics."
