Rediscover your total rewards with Human Capital Services
It is easy to get into the habit of looking at your take-home pay and not consider your benefits as K-State employees. The Division of Human Capital Services invites you to think beyond your base salary and rediscover your total compensation package.
Over the next several years, Human Capital Services will undergo a comprehensive study to review rewards systems, which will begin with developing job descriptions for all employees within the university support staff, unclassified professional staff and nontenure-track faculty. This study also will include analyzing market competitiveness, designing compensation plans that consider the correlation of total rewards to base pay and creating plans that enhance career growth.
As we analyze our present total rewards data with external market data, we will make recommendations to close gaps, where they exist. We will close these gaps incrementally and contingent upon funding sources.
Our approach will be guided by K-State's compensation philosophy, which we introduced yesterday.
In addition, Human Capital Services is entering into a consulting agreement with CBIZ, a professional services company in Cleveland, Ohio, to support this project. HCS, however, primarily will be responsible for designing compensation plans. CBIZ delivers financial and employee business services to organizations of all sizes with expertise in employee compensation.
When it is necessary to work with consultants, HCS seeks to engage vendors who are philanthropic and demonstrably show evidence of their value for diversity with inclusion. Since 2009, CBIZ has collected more than 3 million pounds of food for its National Food Drive. CBIZ also has created an innovative program called CBIZ Women's Advantage that celebrates the uniqueness of women professionals and provides development through focused leadership initiatives.
As a next step, HCS will work with employees and their supervisors to develop job descriptions. We appreciate each leader allowing employees approximately an hour during the work hours to complete a job description survey — available in English, Spanish, Mandarin and Korean. For those employees needing assistance in completing the survey, please email Derek Smith, director of compensation and organizational effectiveness, at derek41@k-state.edu. Completing a job description is a required step for all employees in university support services and unclassified professional staff positions.
