SafeZone training today and April 14
SafeZone will offer two advanced training sessions, Sexuality and Gender Identity from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today and Working with Students in Distress from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 14, both in 123 Leadership Studies Building. Register for either or both trainings.
Sexuality and Gender Identity will focus on the many aspects of sexuality and gender identity. This advanced training examines ways that students, faculty and staff can better understand personal perceptions of sexuality and gender identity and how they can further help to educate and advocate for those who identify outside of the sexuality and gender binaries.
Working with Students in Distress presents Scott Jones, Office of Student Life associate dean and director of the Non-Violence Campaign, who will talk with faculty, staff and students about reaching out and caring for students who are struggling.
SafeZone has been a part of Kansas State University's atmosphere since the 1970's when it was initially started to help those facing discrimination because of sexual orientation. After a revitalization of the program in 2002, SafeZone has evolved to fit the needs of current K-State community members. Allies are now educated to help those coming from a variety of background with needs concerning hateful acts like bullying or discrimination, LGBTQ related concerns, or sexual violence. Since SafeZone's creation on campus, more than 1,000 allies have been trained.
