Anderson Hall’s bells to ring April 9 to commemorate 150th anniversary of Appomattox surrender
On April 9, K-State will join the nation in a nationwide observance of the 150th anniversary of Gen. Robert E. Lee's surrender at Appomattox, Virginia. General Lee's surrender marked the symbolic end of the Civil War.
The National Park Service invites churches, temples, schools, city halls, public buildings, historic sites and others to ring bells across the nation as a gesture to mark the end of the conflict in which more than 750,000 Americans perished. Bells will ring across the nation from 3:15 EST, or 2:15 CST, continuously for four minutes, with each minute symbolic of a year of war.
