Burrack re-orchestrates the Mikado
Submitted by Frederick Burrack
Frederick Burrack, director of graduate studies in music and director of the Office of Assessment, recently re-orchestrated the music for the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta "The Mikado" to include contemporary music styles of country-western, Dixieland, rockabilly, swing, rap, rhythm and blues, heavy metal, Japanese pop and techno.
The new orchestration modernizes the musical feel leaving the original melodies and harmonic integrity intact. This creative endeavor can be heard the next two weekends in the Manhattan Arts Center production.
