State budget update
The Kansas Legislature's final approved budget required Gov. Brownback and State Budget Director Shawn Sullivan to make reductions of $50 million in state expenditures after the Legislature's final adjournment.
Brownback and Sullivan made the announcement July 30. It did not include any reductions for Kansas State University, Kansas State Research and Extension, Kansas State University Salina and the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Also, there were no reductions announced for any state universities. The one reduction related to higher education was for $1.9 million dollars in fiscal year 2016 and 2017 from the Postsecondary Performance-Based Incentives Fund. This was a new program in fiscal year 2015 to fund postsecondary institutions for the GED accelerator program. The governor previously vetoed the appropriation to the Kansas Board of Regents in the final appropriations bill House Substitute for Senate Bill 112.
