Working With Industry Workshops prepare faculty for fruitful collaborations
Last spring the Office of the Vice President for Research, the Kansas State University Foundation and the K-State Institute for Commercialization collaborated on a training series to provide faculty and staff with tools to help establish mutually beneficial industry collaborations and strong strategic partnerships. In response to requests for more information on selected topics, two hands-on workshops have been scheduled for October and November. We hope to see you there!
- Working With Industry Workshop: Build your Brand will be from 3:30-5 p.m. Oct. 7 in the Alumni Center Ballroom. Effective marketing of faculty research capabilities and results requires a strong brand and intentional communications. This workshop will help researchers hone messages, prepare to share them with industry, and develop a basic outreach plan. Internal and external experts will kick off the session with useful tips and a rundown of available resources, lead small group work sessions, and provide feedback. Registration is required because space is limited.
- Working with Industry Workshop: Navigating Intellectual Property will be from 3:30-5 p.m. Nov. 2 in the Alumni Center Ballroom. This session builds on the concepts presented during the spring 2015 Working With Industry Boot Camp to provide a deeper understanding of the university's intellectual property, or IP, policy and how the patenting and technology transfer process works. Presenters will discuss specific IP terms commonly found in industry contracts and provide sample scenarios. Participants will be better prepared to discuss K-State IP policy with corporate contacts and will learn about how they can benefit personally and professionally from such interactions. Registration is required because space is limited.
The above workshops also will help faculty prepare for industry interactions during the K-State Research Showcase on Feb. 3, 2016. Additional information will be available later this fall.
