ADVANCE Distinguished Lecture Series presents Jill Schroeder
ADVANCE Distinguished Lecture Series and Mithila Jugulam, assistant professor of agronomy, will host Jill Schroeder at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, in 1014 Throckmorton Plant Sciences Center. Schroeder will present "USDA-Office of Pest Management Policy: What do we do and how did I get here?"
Abstract:
The USDA-Office of Pest Management Policy is, administratively, a unit within the Agricultural Research Service; however, our office director reports to the USDA Deputy Secretary of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. Our mandate is to integrate the department's strategic planning and activities related to pest management. Basically, we are asked to provide technical support to policy makers in all areas related to pest management and to coordinate the department’s role and related interagency interactions with the Environmental Protection Agency. My research program centered on understanding the biology and management of weeds associated with other pests that impact the irrigated cropping systems of New Mexico. The Office of Pest Management Policy works on many issues including pesticide registration and registration review, endangered species, resistance, pollinators and monarch butterflies.
