Jazz ensemble to perform works inspired by Shakespeare
Submitted by Communications and Marketing
As part of "Shakespeare in the Little Apple," Wayne Goins and the K-State Concert Jazz Ensemble will perform works inspired by Shakespeare including Duke Ellington's "Such Sweet Thunder." "Shakespeare Swings!" will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, in 201 McCain Auditorium.
Ellington's album was inspired by text in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Othello." He began writing a series of pieces dedicated to William Shakespeare's work that made its debut at the Music for Moderns concert in New York's Town Hall. The album was released in 1957 by the American composer.
