New food venues coming to K-State Student Union
Submitted by Audrey Taggart-Kagdis
As part of the Union renovation, the Union food court will be replaced with restaurants that will offer a variety of food choices and seating locations when the project is completed in January 2017. Complementary venues designed to appeal to students, faculty and staff alike were chosen to provide different experiences from grab-and-go options, quick service selections or casual dining with table service.
• Union Station by JP's: Through a partnership with K-State Housing and Dining Services, Union Station by JP's will bring the campus and the Manhattan community together around a table filled with excellent food. A K-State original, modeled after JP's in the Jardine Complex, Union Station menu items will be locally sourced when possible, including Weber Hall meats and homemade pretzel buns.
• Radina's Coffeehouse and Roastery: Simple, delicious food and handcrafted coffee are the foundations of Radina's. Locally owned and operated, Radina's is committed to quality items made by caring hands. Other Radina's campus locations include the School of Leadership Studies, College of Business Administration and College of Engineering.
• Qdoba Mexican Eats: Qdoba restaurants serve up mouthwatering bites that are both chef-inspired and customizable, with fan favorites like burritos, Three-Cheese Queso, Loaded Tortilla Soup and Knockout Tacos.
• Chick-fil-A: Recognized for its original chicken sandwich and waffle fries, Chick-fil-A returns to the K-State Student Union with a full menu of fresh, handcrafted food.
• Panda Express: Panda Express, a campus favorite, is best known for its wide variety of original recipes including its Original Orange Chicken, SweetFire Chicken Breast®, award-winning Honey Walnut Shrimp and Shanghai Angus Steak.
• Just Salads: Just Salads provides quality, healthy food in a fast, responsible, yet affordable way. The menu focuses on organically grown, locally sourced balanced recipes curated by a registered dietitian that include nutrient-rich flavor combinations with fiber, protein and calories in mind.
• Call Hall Ice Cream Shoppe: Bringing a beloved K-State tradition home to the Union, Call Hall uses high quality products from the university dairy farm; the shop showcases long-time favorite Purple Pride, customary flavors and seasonal selections.
In addition to the new restaurants, Subway will continue to operate in the Union Bowling Center. Einstein Brothers Bagels in Hale Library will also remain in operation.
Frequent updates will be provided through K-State Today, the Union's Twitter page and website to inform the campus and community of all changes as they take place. For further information, please contact Audrey Taggart-Kagdis, Union director of marketing, at akagdis@k-state.edu.
About the K-State Student Union renovation: K-State students voted and approved a referendum that led to the $31 million renovation project in spring 2013. The project will increase student organization meeting areas and student lounges, enhance retail and dining spaces and give the building a better overall flow. The Union will remain open during the renovation, although certain areas will be relocated within the facility while under renovation.
