Geology professor Pamela Kempton receives James Madison University Distinguished Alumni Award
Pamela Kempton, professor and head of K-State's geology department, was recently honored by the geology and environmental science department at James Madison University with the 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award.
Kempton graduated in the class of 1977 with a bachelor's degree in geology. She holds a master's degree in sedimentology and a doctorate in igneous petrology from Southern Methodist University.
Kempton visited the department on Oct. 21 to receive her award and gave a seminar to faculty and students on some of her latest research on volcanic rocks from Sardinia.
Before serving as department head at K-State, Kempton was head of research and director of science at the U.K. Natural Environment Research Council, the U.K. equivalent of the National Science Foundation.
