Philippine Student Association hosting Adopt-a-School Bingo Night on Nov. 4

Submitted by Meghan Strassburg

Come join K-State's Philippine Student Association, an official student organization, and the St. Thomas More Catholic Church at its annual Adopt-a-School Bingo Night from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, in Utopia Hall at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2900 Kimball Ave.

Advance tickets will be sold Tuesday, Nov. 1, and Wednesday, Nov 2. Tickets also will be available at the door during the event. Tickets are $5 and include eight games and snacks, while supplies last. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact Meghan Strassburg at meghanlea@k-state.edu

As you enjoy Filipino food, play bingo, win prizes and hang out with your friends and family, you will be helping a child in need. All proceeds from our event will be used toward the association's Adopt-a-School project in the Philippines.

The goal of the project is to help provide students in need with the best education possible. Each ticket sold will provide school supplies for one child in the Philippines for an entire year. School supplies may include essentials such as notebooks, papers, pens, etc. that the students — and underfunded Philippine public schools — may not be able to afford. Many students have no choice but to drop out before graduating high school because of the lack of funds. By providing these kids with the tools that they need, the association hopes to increase the graduation rate of students.

The Adopt-a-School project has been the outreach initiative of the Philippine Student Association since 2005. Each year, the association carefully selects schools to adopt and endeavors to raise money through various fundraising activities. The association implements the funds raised into the public schools and provides underprivileged children with various school supplies over the summer.
