A title challenge
As the university moves to implement Total Rewards, one new change is how we treat titles in our system. The letters that unclassified professional staff and university support staff will receive on Monday, April 3, may include a new job title, effective fiscal year 2018.
As part of the initiative, we are simplifying the number of titles used in our system to be more in line with our peers and industry standards. These broader titles will help place employees within salary grades and reduce the complexity of our system.
Departments may adopt working titles — within certain guidelines — for employees that more closely align with specific job duties. For example, someone whose title becomes "public information officer" may be permitted to use an external working title such as "editor" or "news writer."
Some may find this change unsettling, but please know it is a reflection of moving to a duties-based job description and compensation structure. We ask that you work with your supervisor or departmental Human Capital Services liaison to discuss working titles and any other questions you may have.
