High-profile researchers from around the world are at the Biosecurity Research Institute at Pat Roberts Hall this week for Kansas State University's inaugural African Swine Fever Symposium.
The participants include directors of laboratories and researchers from Spain, Kenya, Australia, Russia, the United Kingdom and Canada.
African Swine Fever is a tick-borne disease of pigs, but pigs can also be infected by consuming uncooked, infected food scraps. Presentations at the symposium touch on various aspects of African swine fever, including biology, natural history, epidemiology, virus interactions, diagnostics, vaccines and control strategies.
The event sponsors include the Kansas Bioscience Authority, the National Pork Board, the National Pork Producers Council, Harris Vaccines, Phibro, Novartis and CEEZAD.
