National Stalking Awareness Month event today
January is National Stalking Awareness Month.
The Office of Institutional Equity, or OIE; along with the Center for Advocacy, Response and Education, or CARE; K-State Police Department, Lafene Health Center and the Clery office will host an outreach event to bring awareness to the K-State community from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 23 on the first floor of the Union.
Follow the National Stalking Awareness Month campaign on social media using the hashtags #NSAM and #NSAM2018. By doing so, you can join this effort to raise awareness about stalking and use your voice to bring attention to this issue. Becoming engaged and informed is the first step in raising awareness.
In 2004, the National Center for Victims of Crime launched the campaign for National Stalking Awareness Month to increase the public's understanding of the crime of stalking. This campaign began in memory of murdered stalking victim, Peggy Klinke, who died in 2003. In January 2004, the National Center for Victims of Crime launched the first observance of National Stalking Awareness Month. In 2011, the White House issued the first Presidential Proclamation on National Stalking Awareness Month. The National Center for Victims of Crime website includes a Stalking Resource Center, which provides tips on how to recognize stalking, responses to stalking, and interactive quizzes to test your knowledge.
Kansas State University prohibits discrimination, harassment, sexual violence, domestic and dating violence, and stalking under policy PPM 3010. The Office of Institutional Equity is mandated to enforce PPM 3010. To file a report with the office, including a concern of stalking, please use the online form.
Additional on-campus resources are available to students, faculty and staff.
