Ford coordinator receives regional advisor of the month
Melinda Gilliam, assistant community coordinator of Ford Hall, was recognized by the National Residence Hall Honorary as the regional winner for advisor of the month in December 2017.
Carleigh Pope, Ford Hall resident assistant, nominated Gilliam for her dedication to building relationships with staff and residents throughout the hall.
"Melinda is thoughtful in how she makes decisions and carries them out," Pope wrote in her nomination. "Melinda thinks through possible scenarios, considers all the factors, and then makes great choices that benefit our staff and the residents here in Ford Hall. She works as the glue in Ford Hall, keeping everything together and making sure to be inclusive in her decision-making."
Gilliam helped organize a staff social that occurred on her personal time to help Ford staff release stress before finals. She also attended a social on the fifth floor after business hours, where she participated in decorating sugar cookies and gingerbread houses.
"When thinking of Melinda Gilliam, one would say she is smart, strong, brave and open hearted," Pope wrote. "She strives to stand out, beat the odds, and make a positive impression on everyone she interacts with."
The Little Apple chapter of National Residence Hall Honorary accepts "of the month" nominations for numerous categories including advisor, residential community, first-year student and organization. Campus winners are recognized each month, and are sent to be reviewed at the regional level.
