K-State’s Ebony Theater hosts First Friday on Feb. 2
K-State's Ebony Theater will host First Friday from 6-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, in the Sandy Chastan Purple Masque Lobby. This month's event will honor members of the Black Student Union.
This monthly arts-infused social gathering gives a variety of performers a chance to share their work while attendees gather for conversation and refreshments.
February's First Friday will feature an art display and poetry slam, inspired by the play "Not Without Laughter." The play is based on a novel by the noted African-American poet and writer, Langston Hughes. The scenic design for the show was inspired by the painter Aaron Douglas, who was born in Topeka. Along with Hughes, Douglas became a leading member of the Harlem Renaissance.
First Friday is free and open to the public. Tickets for the performance of "Not Without Laughter" may be purchased at the lobby box office one hour prior to the show, online at k-state.edu/mtd/tickets or by calling 785-236-8638.
