Legislative update
The week of Feb. 5 marks the beginning of the fifth week of the Kansas Legislature. A list of bills impacting Kansas State University is available on the governmental relations website.
Jeff Colyer was sworn in as the 47th Kansas governor on Jan. 31 in the Rotunda of the State Capitol. Gov. Colyer will address a joint session of the Kansas House of Representatives on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
This week starts discussion on the governor’s budget recommendations in House Budget Committees. The Higher Education Budget Committee will review budgets and receive testimony from impacted institutions this week.
Also this week, Allen Featherstone will testify to the House Education Committee on Agriculture. His presentation is on the agricultural finance outlook and agricultural property taxes. Featherstone will also present to the Legislative Rural Caucus.
The Kansas Legislative Session’s first adjournment will be Friday, April 6. The veto session will convene on Thursday April 26. The 90th day is May 4.

In addition, the Office of Governmental Relations will host Kansas Legislative Review Sessions from noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 12 in the K-State Student Union's Bluemont Room; and March 2, 16 and 30 in Hale Library's Hemisphere Room. These sessions are open to the public and feel free to bring a brown bag lunch.
