University Archives launches new records management website

Every K-State unit and department generates records that collectively make up the university's history. Knowing what to retain and what to dispose of — and how to dispose of it — can be challenging.
Now, university records manager Ryan Leimkuehler has created a comprehensive website that outlines best practices for records management. He's included directions for creating retention schedules, transferring records to the archives and much more.
Any K-State employee who plays a role in their unit's records management should explore the search feature that locates the retention schedule for each type of record. Whether you're managing academic transcripts and employee personnel files or receipts and purchase orders, this page will provide concise instructions.
A training page also lists the in-person workshops that Leimkuehler is available to teach, including Introduction to Records Management and Electronic Records Management and Shared Drive Clean-Up. In the future, he hopes to create online webinars that K-Staters can take at their convenience.
"These webpages are an important source for understanding records management at K-State," university archivist Cliff Hight said. "In addition to linking to our official records retention policy, the site also includes tools and advice that make it an invaluable resource for all employees."
University Archives is in the Richard L.D. and Marjorie J. Morse Department of Special Collections on Hale Library's fifth floor.
