K-State Band program to present concerts March 6-7
The K-State Band program will present concerts on Tuesday, March 6, and Wednesday, March 7, in McCain Auditorium. Both concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free to the public.
The K-State Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble will perform on Tuesday, March 6. The Wind Symphony, under the direction of Alex Wimmer, assistant director of bands, will perform works by Markowski, Whitacre, Mackey and Schuman.
The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Frank Tracz, director of bands, will perform works by Galante, Meechan and Shostakovich. They will be joined by Tod Kerstetter, professor of clarinet, on David Maslanka's "Concert for Clarinet and Wind Ensemble." Amanda Arrington, faculty pianist, also will be featured.
The K-State Concert Band and University Bands will perform on Wednesday, March 7. Works by Gilroy, Ticheli, Grundman, and other contemporary composers will be performed. The Concert Band will be conducted by graduate students Allegra Fisher, Jay Koupal, Wes Lewis and Andy Tinsman. The University Band is primarily made up of music education majors performing on secondary instruments and is conducted by junior and senior education majors. This experience provides them with opportunities that will better prepare them for student teaching.
