ADVANCE Distinguished Lecture Series presents Lisa Oakes
The ADVANCE Distinguished Lecture Series and Jennifer Francois, assistant professor of family studies and human services, will host Lisa Oakes, professor of psychology and faculty researcher for the Center for Mind and Brain at the University of California. Oakes will present "Looking to Learn and Learning to Look: The Development of Infants' Visual Attention" at 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 16, in the Hemisphere Room of Hale Library.
Oakes received her doctorate at the University of Texas, Austin, in 1991. Oakes joined the faculty of the psychology department at the University of Iowa in 1991, and in 2006 Oakes moved her lab and her family to begin her present position as professor of psychology and faculty researcher at the Center for Mind and Brain at the University of California, Davis. Here she continues her work examining many aspects of infant visual cognition and learning. Oakes has published three books and many research articles. Her work is funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.
