Poet e. nina jay headlines rally today
Submitted by Shireen Roshanravan
At 6 p.m. Monday, April 30, on K-State Student Union terrace, Chicago-based spoken word artist and poet e. nina jay, a frontline worker in the anti-sexual violence movement, will read from her recently released debut collection, "Body of Rooms." Her performance will headline the Take Bake Our Lives rally and march organized by FIRE.
Aishah Shahida Simmons, director and producer of "No! The Rape Documentary," compares e. nina jay's poetry and spoken word to the sacred texts of Audre Lorde in its "laser sharp vision to examine the impact of racism and U.S. imperialism on our Black survivor bodies." In her writing and performances, e. nina jay names the intersections of violence that organize our daily lives, honors the resilience of survivors, breaks silences that protect the powerful, and invites all others to do the same. Do not miss this opportunity to be inspired. All are welcome.
Thank you to the Department of American Ethnic Studies, the Dow Center for Multicultural and Community Studies, Leadership Studies, the LGBT Resource Center and the Department of Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies for co-sponsoring this event.
