The U.S. Department of State will host a reception honoring the 2011-2012 Jefferson Science Fellows on Monday in Washington, D.C.
Richard Marston, university distinguished professor of geography, was one of the 13 fellows for the year. Marston worked with the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research in the Office of the Geographer and Global Issues.
Remarks will be given at the reception by Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and Environment Robert Hormats; USAID Deputy Administrator Donald Steinberg; Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs Kerri-Ann Jones; Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretary E. William Colglazier; and Technology Adviser to the USAID Administrator Alex Deghan.
The Jefferson Science Fellowships allow tenured academic scientists and engineers from institutions of higher learning in the U.S. to help form and implement national foreign policy. The program is administered by the National Academies and is supported through a partnership with the science, technology and engineering academic community, professional scientific societies and the U.S. Department of State.
