Open forums start Aug. 13 for K-State IT security administrator
Three candidates for the position of chief information security officer will be on campus over the next few weeks. The schedule for candidates is
- Aug. 13-14 – Cheryl O’Dell
- Aug. 16-17 – Robert Vaile
- August (schedule pending) – Arif Basha
The first open forum is for Cheryl O’Dell from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, in the Hemisphere Room of Hale Library. All K-Staters are invited to attend the open forums.
Cover letters, vitaes, and schedules for each candidate are available on the chief information security office search website. Access requires a K-State eID/password.
Candidates have been asked to speak for 20-30 minutes about their background, professional experience and on the following:
“Which security standard (NIST, ISO, etc.) do you think works best for a major public research university and what criteria should be considered when adopting a security standard? In implementing a security standard, how do you balance the university’s need for security with users’ expectations of privacy and usability?”
Open forums will be recorded and available online after each session, at the chief information security office search website. Feedback forms for each candidate will also be available online.
