Guikema Memorial Tree Dedication Ceremony Sept. 7

The Division of Biology will host a tree dedication ceremony in memory of James Guikema, former associate director of the division and professor of biology, at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, on the east lawn of Ackert Hall. Remarks will start at 3:15 p.m. and an informal reception will begin at 3:30 p.m. in 221 Ackert Hall. Martha Mather, associate adjunct professor of biology, will serve as the master of ceremonies.
Guikema served the university in many roles from 1981 to April 2018, including as the university's associate dean of the Graduate School and associate vice president for research. In addition to his leadership, his research program in plant sciences transitioned into gravitational and space biology, with multiple experiments on the space shuttle.
