Tuesday Talks in the Gardens
Take your lunch break in the Kansas State University Gardens and learn something new. All of the interactive talks are scheduled from 12:15-12:45 p.m. on Tuesdays in the Quinlan Visitor Center, unless otherwise noted.
- Seed Tape – Aug. 28
Gregg Eyestone, Riley County extension horticulture agent
Come and make seed tape just in time for fall vegetable planting. Eyestone will demonstrate an economical method for making seed tape and how simple it is to plant.
- The Incredible Migrating Butterflies – Sept. 11
Barbara Green, Riley County extension master gardener
Where do all of the butterflies go in the winter? Many of them, including the Monarch, migrate. Barbara will discuss the reason they migrate, how a tracking system was developed for Monarchs and the importance of Monarch Waystations. *Location will be in the Gardens, weather permitting.
- Poinsettias Galore: Highlights from the 2012 K-State Poinsettia Trials – Nov. 13
Joshua Craver, horticulture graduate student
Poinsettias aren't just red anymore. Join Craver for an overview of some of the most unusual varieties selected from the more than 60 cultivars that are being produced this year by greenhouse management students at Kansas State University. His talk will take you from the breeder's greenhouse to selecting poinsettias in a retail outlet.
