Date correction: Navy entomologist to speak about management of public health insects
The Department of Entomology Seminar Series presents Michael Fisher, head of entomology for the Naval Medical Research Unit 6, at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, in 230 Waters Hall.
Fisher will present "NAMRU-6 Entomology R&D: Full Speed Ahead to the Horizon and Beyond." He has spent the majority of his career as an active duty Navy entomologist focusing on integrated pest management of public health insects both in the U.S. and while deployed, testing and evaluating novel chemistries as repellents or insecticides, and providing operational support to protect the war fighter from vector-borne diseases.
For the past 10 years, Fisher has been involved in interdisciplinary work on prevention of vector-borne disease and the management of those arthropod vector species across the globe — Central and South America, the Middle East, the continental U.S. — with concerted efforts to advance our understanding of the biology and ecology of arthropod vectors of public health.
