Political science lecture to discuss the Islamic State, armed conflict and resource allocation
The political science department, part of K-State's College of Arts and Sciences, will host Scott Gates, research professor at the Peace Research Institute Oslo, for a lecture at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, in 301 Calvin Hall.
Gates will present "Forces of darkness: Islamic State, armed conflict, and resource allocation."
Gates also is professor of political science, and a guest researcher at the Centre for the Study of Equality, Social Organization and Performance in the Department of Economics at the University of Oslo. His current research includes applied game theory analysis, international relations theory, international political economy, formal models of bureaucracy and economic modeling.
He has published 24 peer-reviewed academic articles and 10 books, including "War and State-Building in Afghanistan" (2015, Bloomsbury). He is an associate editor of the Journal of Peace Research and is the editor-in-chief of the International Area Studies Review.
