College of Arts and Sciences to host fifth annual Civil Rights Teach-In
Join the College of Arts and Sciences for a community teach-in celebrating K-State's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Observance Week 2019. The teach-in will run from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, in Forum Hall at the K-State Student Union.
Students, faculty, staff and members of the community are invited to listen to faculty speakers and graduate student poster presentations regarding various aspects of diversity at the teach-in.
Faculty speakers for the 2019 Civil Rights Teach-In:
- Nadia Oweidat: "I Have a Dream: Critical Thinking, Human Rights, and Political Correctness."
- Nikhil Moro: "Freedom of Press, an Evolving Civil Right."
- Spencer Wood: "'We Don't Need No Commodities!' The Unfamiliar Story of Black Farmers, the Mississippi Civil Rights Movement, and the Power of Everyday People."
- L. Sue Williams: "Our Town Our Kids: Juvenile Justice and Inclusion in the Heartland."
- Jim Sherow: "Historical Glimpses of Race Relations in 'Free State' Manhattan."
Graduate Student poster presentations:
- Sam Sharpe: "Deconstructing Myths Surrounding Biological Sex from a Scientific Perspective."
- Evelyn Stratmoen: "Taking a Knee: Masculine Honor Beliefs & the Propensity to Make Attributions to Prejudice Perceptions of the NFL Anthem Protests."
