Philosophy professor addresses the Aesthetics Research Group in London
James Hamilton, professor of philosophy, presented "What does cognitive science tell us about how to appreciate the performing arts?" on Sept. 26 to the Aesthetics Research Group at the University of Kent, London.
The presentation posed two fundamental questions that any theory of the mental – or its cognates, embodied cognition, its cognates, or any Bayesian account of mental processing under conditions of uncertainty – must meet. He argues we do not as yet have any idea of how to test which approach is likely to resolve these questions adequately.
