The power of pink: Johnson Cancer Research Center's breast cancer awareness luncheon Oct. 12

Ladies are invited to enjoy lunch with friends as they learn about breast health and breast cancer at the third annual Pink Power Luncheon for breast cancer awareness from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Holiday Inn at the Campus, 1641 Anderson Ave.
The event, sponsored by Kansas State University's Johnson Cancer Research Center and Susan G. Komen for the Cure, is free and includes lunch, a souvenir, educational materials and door prizes.
Advance registration is required by Friday, Oct. 5, and can be made by contacting Marcia Locke at marcia@k-state.edu or 785-532-6705.
The featured speaker will be Gayle Spencer, executive director of Witness Project of Kansas, a breast and cervical cancer education and outreach program based in Wichita that makes special effort to reach out to African-American women.
Spencer has a master's degree in public administration-health care and more than 25 years of nonprofit hospital and health care experience. Her presentation, "Why Me?: A Breast Health Awareness Journey," will cover breast health and cancer, early detection techniques and navigating the health care system with and without insurance.
