Dance enchantment: Ensemble brings imagery, spirituality of India to McCain stage
The Nrityagram Dance Ensemble, regarded worldwide as one of the foremost dance companies of India, is bringing the artistry of Indian dance to Kansas State University as part of the McCain Performance Series.
The ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, in McCain Auditorium. The program blends Odissi, a classical Indian dance form, with contemporary concepts to create an atmosphere of magic and spirituality. The ensemble has earned international acclaim for its ability to redefine both dance and theater and to create and communicate with imagery and movement.
"The imagery of the dance ensemble is incredibly beautiful," said Todd Holmberg, director of McCain Auditorium. "In fact, we based the artwork for the entire 2010-2011 season on this show. The movement is very sculptural and is inspired by ancient temple architecture, but with their own modern and intellectual influence."
Tickets are on sale now, with prices starting at $14.50 for K-State students and $29 for the general public. Discounts for K-State faculty and staff, military, and children are also available. Tickets can be purchased at the McCain Auditorium box office from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, or by calling 785-532-6428. More information is available online at http://www.k-state.edu/mccain.
