Conferences and noncredit programs coordinators present at continuing education conference

Submitted by Rosanna Vail

Three coordinators from Kansas State University’s conferences and noncredit programs unit in the Division of Continuing Education presented at the University Professional and Continuing Education Association’s Central Region Conference in Kansas City, Mo., Sept. 24-26.

“Start-Up Challenges: Opening and Operating a New Conferencing Facility” was presented by Renee Hultgren, event manager at K-State Olathe, and Tony Ballard, program coordinator for the division. Their presentation covered the basics of opening and operating a new conferencing facility, including researching and implementing best practices in operation, determining target audiences, meeting industry demands and making ends meet while staying true to the mission of the business.

Tanya Beninga, program coordinator at the division, presented “Reaching More Audiences without Reinventing the Wheel: Repurposing Educational Content.” This presentation covered the benefits of K-State Pro, a professional development course management system that allows faculty to repurpose existing materials for other audiences with ease.

Ballard joined university partners Mary Wood, director of K-State’s English language program, and Socorro Herrera, professor of elementary education and director of the Collaborative and Intercultural and Multilingual Advocacy Center at K-State, in presenting “Collaborating with University Partners to Create a Successful International Student Experience.” This session focused on the collaboration between the Division of Continuing Education, office of international programs and College of Education to create a teaching English as a second language program called Go Teacher.
