Voice area hosts West Central Regional Conference and Student Auditions

Submitted by Amy Rosine

The voice area of the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance will host the West Central Regional Conference and Student Auditions of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

More than 400 students and 100 voice teachers and pianists from Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas and Nebraska will visit K-State and Manhattan Oct. 31-Nov. 2 to participate in master classes and a vocal competition.

Each year, the conference rotates to a different school in either Colorado, Nebraska or Wyoming. K-State last hosted the event in 2010. It begins on Oct. 31 with the NATSAA Competition for advanced singers and continues Nov. 1-2 with college and high school singers in classical and musical theatre categories, and a "nontraditional" category for avocational singers who are beyond college, or college singers outside of the audition age requirements. Singers compete in up to three rounds of competition, culminating with the top 5 students in each category. Those singers will be invited to continue to the National Auditions.

Several K-State singers have placed at the national competition in the past few years.
